Nicest Ice Ever?

Powell River Recreation Complex

Nicest Ice Ever?

One of the most recent REALice installations in North America is at the Powell River Recreation Complex in Powell River, BC. The complex includes two NHL-sized arenas, and their REALice was installed at the end of July. This week, the local newspaper, the Powell River Peak, reported on technology upgrades to save energy and cost at the facility. The REALice cold water resurfacing system is one of the energy upgrades discussed.

We love it when we get press and are very proud of the energy savings that REALice brings. But there’s one quote in particular that caught our eye that we’re sure you’ll be interested in reading. It comes from Neil Pukesh, Powell River’s Manager of Recreation. Here’s the part of the article that really popped out for us:

“Pukesh adds that it is probably the nicest and cleanest looking sheet of ice that he has ever seen installed.”

Now that’s the kind of feedback we love to hear — and it’s something we hear often. That’s because the REALice-treated water gives you ice that is more compact and, without the air bubbles that get in the way of the freezing process, it freezes much faster. This is why our users have no choice but to move their brine/setpoints up higher — because otherwise the ice will freeze too quickly. It takes a little adjustment period to find what your rink’s new sweet spot will be, but we expect it will be from 3-5F warmer than what you’re running right now.

Great ice, great savings. What are you waiting for?

Be Bold, Go Cold

REALice’s cold water resurfacing technology takes the place of using extremely hot water to resurface the ice. The patented, 3D-printed system is a brilliant example of fluid dynamics, using only the water pressure available at the arena to run the system, without any further consumables needed, like filters/membranes or chemicals to remove the micro air bubbles that are trapped in the water, The resulting water freezes faster, demanding less load from the refrigeration system and delivers ice that is clear, dense and durable.
