Optimal Ice Temperature

If the ice temperature is left at 16°F and REALice-treated cold water is used to resurface the ice, the water will freeze too quickly. You will have to raise your ice temperature, which will save you energy -- and money.

Optimal Ice Temperature

Ice temperature is the one parameter that has the biggest effect on your energy consumption.

For every 1ºF your ice temperature is increased will save about 2% of your total energy consumption.

For any average ice rink, the optimum ice temperature is 26.6ºF.

With REALice®, molecules in the water change allowing the water to crystallize easier. That means water that passes through the REALice system is easier to freeze, giving you the option to increase the ice temperature by as much as 8ºF.

Working with REALice® you can raise the ice temperature from 16ºF to the 18ºF – 19ºF range, and then gradually work the temperature up in small increments, to 23ºF or even 25°F.
